Headfirst For Halos asked:
Although I’m a freshman in high school, I really find computers, and art really interesting, and would like to become an artist in that category when I’m out of high school, or college, if I go… I would like to attend some sort of art school, but don’t know of any in my area. I seen a poster in my art class for some art institute, but when I went to the site, it was full of spyware, and etc.. Any ideas????

well most community colleges offer art degrees!
you get to pick your classes of art and computer art!
you should sign up at Deviantart.com some other artist who like to share their work is on there and it’s free..
if you plan on going to an art school it self you may want to relocate to a school of choice!
google art school or art trade school. or trade school for arts in this area!
funny i went to a trade school for broad casting and went to community college for graphic design!
now i’m a sales assistant that designs a ton of packages and graphics for the web… after 7 years of being on air i gave that up but i still voice commericals! and i do my art!
i wouldn’t give my job up for!
so go for it! any school will get you where you want to go but find out where you want to be when you get out of school and then the schooling will be easier to find!
I graduated from the Art Institute of Atlanta in graphic design. I don’t know where your area is, but some art schools have dorm room like AIA, so you can get pell grants and hope scholarships and then travel to school.
I would suggest you visit Salary.com and check out the salary for gd’s, it’s not that high. If you like computers, web designers make about 10 to 20k more than gds.
Just a thought, good luck.
If you’re serious about a career in computer graphics, start out in your city college nearest you and get some experience under your belt. Then if you want one of the best colleges in the world for art apply to Art Center College of Design in Passadena CA. (www.artcenter.edu) It’s the best!!!!
Most all art schools offer degrees in computer graphics art and design. As a freshman in high school it would be a good idea to start checking out these schools and visiting some so you can get a good idea of them as well as the career you’re looking at going in to. Some colleges on the east coast would be Pratt, RISD, SCAD, VCU, FullSail, MICA, etc. If you’re looking on the west coast there’s OTIS, art institute of san francisco, CSF, etc. Keep in mind that most of these are private art schools, so they’re a little pricey, if you need to–there’s no shame in starting off at a community college, most of them have a good basic program for computer graphics.
As for right now–you should be doing your research on these schools and also trying to find/take classes in computer graphics locally. Having a strong base of knowledge is important. If you can’t find any classes in your area or at your school you can always try online tutorials and websites oriented towards design. Also you should take more art classes, art/drawing/painting/etc will be a necessity in this career and defiently in college. Practice practice practice! It will help when you are building a portfolio for these schools your senior year!
