I have a few ideas of my own but I would just like know some opinions of what I should hand in my portfolio. And what you think the judges would like to see. If anyone could help I would really appreciate it.
I just started to get into photography and what I like to capture are landscapes at night so I just wanted to know if it’s good enough because this would be my first time submitting a portfolio.

Ooooh how exciting!! What kind of art do you do? I, myself, am into photography. As for your portfolio, I would put in some of the things you like to do the most. Portfolios need a lot of creativitiy, color, and varieties. We are having to make a portfolio in my photography class and she told us to google and write a paper on how to make our portfolios better. Unfortunately, I don’t know what kind of art you do and it might be harder for me to tell you how to make yours better. If you’re in photography, I could email you the paper I wrote.

Include only your best work. It’s better to have a few strong pieces than many mediocre ones.

You need a good amount of artwork and a variety to show that you’re capable of doing different types of artwork. Try to get a range of media and styles, and something that shows your ability to plan and cater for the needs of a client. It might also be a good idea to include examples of how your ability has progressed since you first took an interest in art. If you have enough work, you should consider taking out a few of your least favourite pieces, but it’s more important to make sure you have enough. Pick out your favourite one and think of what you’ll say when you’re asked why it’s your favourite, too.

A couple of years ago, I went to Amsterdam where there are a lot of art museums. One of them, the Van Gogh Museum, has a virtual tour and you can download some digital prints of famous art on that site.

I didn’t have time to find the virtual tour, but there is a good deal of information to look through by way of Google.

I also like ancient native american art (found in the Southwest USA) which comes in the form of petroglyphs or pictographs like ancient cave art from France or aboriginal art from Australia. why not Google into each of those three areas (Continents) and show similarities in art that was so widely separated geographically.
