How to identify art prints?

September 6th, 2008
art prints
Rajiv asked:

I came across the B&W print ; ‘Saturday Evening:Return from labour by W.R.Bigg.’ how do I identify the authenticity of the print? or whether it is a print itself and not a framed photocopy?
Links to the art;

Is there a website which helps us to identify art in general and artists signatures

Thank you for your help

    It’s a poster. Look at the price and the fact that there is no edition number. Actual ‘art’ prints were made during the lifetime of the artist and were signed by him in a limited edition. This is just a poster. Also, high-quality limited edition prints will come with some kind of certification.
