Andy I asked:

What is the Industry-standard dpi for professional-quality Art Prints? I think I’ve heard 1200 somewhere, but I’ve also heard 600 is high…

Don’t know about art prints. I know all printed material (brochures etc) are 300dpi as standard but you probably knew that.

All depends on the output device, different printers perform best with different resolutions, for all printers there is a point beyond which having a higher resolution makes no difference to the quality.

Another thing is to not to confuse the resolution of the output device and the file, for a Duraprint, for example you get the equivalent of 1440dpi printing, the file you print needs to be 200dpi at 100%. It is important to speak to the printer, ask them what profile they want applying, or if they will apply the profile.

(If they ask “what’s a profile?”, find another printer.)
