Can posters/prints of famous art work look good and respectable in a serious setting?

art posters
Wiser_not asked:

I have my eye on a few Jasper Johns pieces. My intention is to frame the print/poster that I buy and hang it in my library for a handsom and professional look (no I am not attempting to make it look real by any means). There are several sites, such as art.com, that sell his work in a poster form but my fear is that the art will look too college dorm room and cheesy and not respectable enough (even when frammed). If anyone out there has bought, frammed, and been pleased with the way posters look on the wall, let me know. I would be interested to hear any negatives that apply as well. Would a smaller print look better than larger (considering that it is a poster, possibly on glossy paper)? Much thanks.

you could always buy one of the posters and frame it, or get it printed onto canvas to make it look a little more real?

i think it would still look serious. and heck, only people that are artists, or know about art are going to respect it anyway, and tehse people realise that art is expensive and not everyone can afford originals!
i’ve got three luis royo blockmount prints as features in my house and i love them all equally, and they all end up being great conversation starters!

Look at anyone’s work from the Pop Art era, like Warhol and do a block of several.Really go for it and cover a whole wall with one image. If you want a really classy effect choose something like the Sistine Chapel ceiling and do a massive close up,if it came out really over pixelated so much the better, but really, really really big!!!Really, honest!!
